They Eat Horses, 2007

These images reveal a carved and desolate landscape, a place where cars and abandoned oil fields rot and rust in the desert sun. An echo of former glory days of Peak oil and a hungry shell it leaves behind. McCamey is a former oil-boom-town now proclaimed Wind Energy Capital of Texas. As the wind turbines churn on the cliffs above, the town below slowly sinks into the former oilfields below. Like a mammoth trapped in a tar pit, this is a landscape of both devastation and desperation. Impoverished after having the local economy gutted buy fossil fuel companies, the homesteads and ranches of less the two thousand people have adapted and continue to remain.
